Mauritius government amends rules for island travel

It's time to get out your packing lists and prepare to travel to Mauritius, your paradise island.  

The borders are reopening with new protocols in place for travellers wishing to visit the island from July 15, 2021. These protocols apply to tourists, resident permit holders and Mauritians returning from abroad, among others. 

Efforts made by the Mauritius government and the public to contain the pandemic have paid off and Mauritius ranks as one of the top countries in the world for its response to COVID-19. According to The Lancet, Mauritius scored a very high mark on the Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Stringency Index3 in the middle of April 2020. This success was partly due to a prompt and consistent governmental strategy. 

Fully vaccinated travellers 

Fully vaccinated travellers can enjoy a holiday in a certified COVID-19-safe hotel from July 15 to September 30, 2021, with full access to hotel facilities (except the spa) and the beach. They must have a PCR test on the day of arrival, day 7 and day 14. After a negative PCR test on day 14, they can venture out to explore the island.  

Meanwhile, during this period, unvaccinated Mauritians may book a quarantine stay in an official quarantine hotel that includes meals and airport transfers. This group will be confined to their rooms, with room service, for 14 days. As usual, they must have a PCR test on the day of arrival as well as days 7 and 14. A negative PCR test on day 14 will grant them access to new accommodation or to their island home.  

October 2021 

From October onwards, the island will be open to fully vaccinated travellers subject to a negative PCR test completed 72 hours prior to boarding your flight. They will be able to enjoy a relaxing holiday at their hotel and experience the attractions across the island throughout their stay.
